More stories of Plenty?

Plenty? A Festival Exploring More and Less is a chance to be part of a movement about how we build a liveable future that will last for generations. We come together for a weekend of engaging conversations, performances, installations and interactive workshops. This is a festival full of thought-provoking discussions and funny interactions bringing us all together. Everyone is welcome.

Our ethos of shared resources has its roots in a joint endeavour to grow culture in co-relationship with communities. We have asked for donations from friends, borrowed and recycled to bring you Plenty? festival. Our commissioned works explore new collaborations between the Barn with local and emerging artists, who have created new and bespoke works just for the festival. There are lots of things to discover and do.

Experience our bike powered smoothie maker, rented from Wheels of Fleet, a community bike project based in Dumfries and Galloway. The charity group support up-cycling and reconditioning of donated bikes to hire – as well providing many free bikes that go to people referred via local food banks, Ukrainian and Syrian refugees and young people beginning work.

This year has seen a bountiful apple season, the warm weather has seen the harvest arrive earlier than expected and our Mother Tree at the Barn has been loaded with apples. To provide apples for Plenty? We have had a fantastic response to our call out so far for windfall apples – reflective of the generosity of communities locally.

Our commissioned works by emerging artists in the North East has offered the time and support for them to take risk - creating experimental work that responds to the festival's themes. The commissions for this year include Saoirse Horne (aka Lamium Project).

Centring around Deep Listening practices, Saoirse Horne (aka Lamium) creates sound works through a digital means of collating and altering field recordings, layered to mimic modern orchestral minimalism with specific influence from weather, acoustic resonance and textural found audio.

The commission supports Saoirse to develop REFLECTING RHYTHMS OF PLENTY, a sound scape that captures the essence of the festival through a composition of field recordings. With ears to the ground, the weather, and the coming together of people with all surrounding habitat; Saoirse will be in the in-house audio archivist. The days findings with culminate in an intuitive live performance using only samples and patches created on the festival grounds.

Plenty? a festival exploring more and less brings people and communities together to create an abundance of joy, well-being and sharing of collective experiences.
