There are some significant construction works taking place at the Woodend Site (home to the Barn, Woodend Allotments, Buchanan Bistro, Deeside Rugby Club, Banchory Christian Fellowship Church and The Movement Bothy) from now until mid-July 2023.
These changes by Aberdeenshire Council, whilst disruptive in the short term, will lead to really positive change for the site.
Construction work started w/c 27 February 2023:
The installation of a Safe Route to School route through the Woodend car park and adjustment to the road entrance to the Woodend site.
The Safe Route to School is part of the work required by the Council to facilitate the AJC Sustainable Homes development at Woodend of Crathes. It involves installing a 3m tarred pedestrian track with lighting from the new homes site down the side of the Woodend access road.
During construction a temporary footpath will be provided.
On completion, this path will be adopted and maintained by Aberdeenshire Council and will provide a safe, tarmacked and fully lit pavement connecting the Hill of Banchory and the bus stop up to the Banchory Christian Fellowship Church, the Barn, Buchanan Bistro, Deeside Rugby Club, Woodend Allotments, The Movement Bothy and the new sustainable housing.
Construction work starting w/c 10 April 2023:
The road widening is part of the works required by Aberdeenshire Council to facilitate Bancon Homes housing development at Lochside of Leys.
This will require a temporary new access to the Woodend site.
Unfortunately, this new access will require three-way traffic lights which will mean delays, but this is unavoidable.
Whilst the temporary access and traffic lights are in position, the Hirn road will be closed.
Please rest assured that while the construction work is underway, the venue and the car park will remain open and accessible throughout. However, you should leave a little more time to travel to the Barn.
We're looking forward to having a new, fully lit path to allow everyone to walk up to the Barn safely. This intervention should increase active travel and make the whole experience around getting to the Barn and its neighbours safer and more enjoyable.
